Senior Underwriter

Position reports to: Assistant Vice President Entertainment & Sports                             Job Classification:  Exempt   

Basic Function and Scope

Within authority, the incumbent will work with assigned brokers to underwrite property and casualty lines focused on the Entertainment industry.

Major Responsibilities

Within authority, the incumbent will work with assigned brokers to underwrite property and casualty lines focused on the Entertainment and or Sports industries. The number of brokers assigned will typically range from 15-35 with annual premiums of $5-$8+ million. Possess the capability to handle all lines of business and all types of rating programs. Visit existing and potential new brokers to discuss our products and procedures such as: underwriting appetite, premium collection policy, profitability issues, pricing and coverage issues. Capable of looking beyond individual account transactions; managing a book of business to achieve new business, renewal retention and ROE objectives in support of the Division. The position also requires effective desk management to allow for quality and timely service to both internal and external customers. Serve as a top underwriting resource. Provide professional development knowledge and insight to less experienced staff members. May help train new underwriters and provide them coaching as they develop in their role. As needed, assist the Assistant Vice President or other Senior Managers in any assigned marketing, administrative or technical training issues in the office.

Qualifications:

Eight + years of commercial underwriting exp, requires strong oral and written communication skills; able to convey the proper message in a positive manner to brokers and policyholders, capable of handling a “paperless” work environment including experience with word processing and e-mail systems. Spreadsheet abilities are preferred. Demonstrates a commitment to the highest level of service to both external customers, identifies customer needs and takes appropriate action to meet those needs, responds and proactively approaches customer needs with a sense of urgency, ability to handle day-to-day tasks with minimal management involvement, takes responsibility for actions, demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), BS or BA degree preferred.

Underwriter

Visit existing and potential new brokers to discuss our products and procedures such as: underwriting appetite, premium collection policy, profitability issues, pricing and coverage issues. Capable of looking beyond individual account transactions; managing a book of business to achieve new business, renewal retention and ROE objectives in support of the Division. The position also requires effective desk management to allow for quality and timely service to both internal and external customers. Serve as a top underwriting resource. Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or CPCU and IIA related coursework preferred, with 5+ year’s commercial underwriting experience. Possess a willingness to further insurance education, demonstrate sound and rational decision-making skills. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Ability to provide feedback that is clear, concise and professional. Demonstrates a commitment to the highest level of service to both internal and external customers. Identifies customer needs and takes appropriate action to meet those needs. Responds and proactively approaches customer needs with a sense of urgency. Working knowledge of MS Office software, (Excel & Word).
