BSUM offers two health plan options: A High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in which the company contributes funds annually with an HSA being utilized or an Open Access Cigna PPO plan. Both plans provide a prescription drug program with a mail order option. Employees are eligible to participate on the first day of employment.
The Dental insurance is provided through Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier Plan. The plan provides for In Network and Out of Network benefits, with no reduction for out of network. Orthodontia is available in this plan for dependent children. Employees are eligible to participate on the first day of employment.
The Vision benefits are provided through VSP which provides for annual exams, allowances for lenses, frames or contact lenses. Coverage is effective the first day of the month following hire date.
Life, Accident Benefits
BSUM provides 1.5x basic life, accidental death & dismemberment insurance and 2X business travel accident insurance at no cost to employees. Employees may also elect to purchase supplemental 1, 2, or 3x life insurance, spousal life of $25,000, dependent life of $10,000 for each eligible child as well as the choice of four optional AFLAC supplemental plans.
The company offers Short Term disability due to illness or injury. The plan covers the employee for a percentange of their weekly salary up to 90 days and is company paid. The plan is available to full-time employees following 30 days of employment. If you are disabled for more than 90 days, you are eligible for Long Term Disability.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
Employees can choose to participate in Health Care and Dependent Care FSAs to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible out-of-pocket health/dental care and dependent day care expenses. Also available are Parking & Transit FSAs.
401K Savings Plan
The 401 (K) Savings Plan allows employees to contribute up to 50% of their salary on a pre-tax basis. Our plan includes a wide choice of investment options through Fidelity so that you can choose an investment mix that best meets your time horizon and personal tolerance for risk. Employees may begin contributing upon hire.
The profit sharing contribution is based on the company’s profits with a minimum of 5% of the employee’s eligible earnings. Employees are eligible the 1st day of the quarter following 90 days within a quarter.
Personal Time Off / Vacation
Personal Time Off (Vacation) is available to eligible employees to provide opportunities for rest, relaxation and personal pursuits. BSUM has a generous PTO policy.
BSUM recognizes various National holidays with paid time off.
Sick Leave Benefits
BSUM provides sick leave benefits to all employees for periods of temporary absence due to illness, or injuries. Employees receive several days per year.
Stock Purchase Program
The Employee Stock Purchase Plan allows full-time employees to become owners by purchasing W.R. Berkley Corporation common stock through convenient after-tax payroll deductions. There are no commissions required. Eligibility begins immediately upon hire date.
BSUM supports employees who want to continue to add value to both their careers and the organization by advancing their skills through educational pursuits. The tuition reimbursement program will cover expenses up to $5,250. We also support employees who continue their education within the insurance industry in various insurance programs such as CPCU, Actuarial, or claims adjuster study. Employees are eligible after 6 months.

Free confidential counseling and referral services are available to all BSUM employees and their families to help resolve work or life issues and other personal issues. Employees are eligible upon hire.

BSUM offers a flex time work schedule which allows employees to choose from various start times that fit their lifestyle.

Employee Referrals Bonus Program
We are proud of our employee’s talents and respect their judgment. Therefore we prefer to hire new employees who are referred to us from our current employees. For each successful referral, we pay a referral bonus up to $1,500.

At BSUM we believe in working hard, but also having fun at work! We have several fun events on a location basis, which include volunteer events in which we give back to the communities we serve. In the past we have done volunteer work at the local food pantries, Habitat for Humanity and various local schools.
